Kira Turns Two!

Kira's second birthday came in the middle of a record-breaking heat-wave - temperatures soaring above 40'C for a week! Plus, with me being 36+ weeks pregnant with "Belly-Bean", it was too hard to organise a party, so we just had a "quiet" gathering with family over for afternoon tea. I only wish "my" side of the family could've been there, too! Maybe next year...

Anyway, as you can see, the pictures are rather dark. That's because our State is being urged to use water and electricity cautiously, to ensure everyone has enough power to operate their airconditioners - vital in this heat. So, we've got our roller shutters and blinds closed to block out as much heat as possible, and only using the lights as necessary.

As we weren't having a party, as such, we've had visitors popping in all week with gifts for Kira (a great way to break the monotony of being cooped up in the house due to the heat!). So when Sunday, February 1 came, Kira KNEW it was her birthday! "Happy birthday? Presents? Two sleeps?" "No more sleeps - today's your birthday!" "Ooohhh, happy birthday Kira!" We had told her that Grandma and Grandad, and Aunty "Ginny" (Virginia), Uncle Craig and cousins James and Adam would be coming later, so for the rest of the day, she kept asking for them, and "Presents? More presents?" Kira understands "soon" and "later", so when our "later" answers became "soon", she got very excited!

Kira loved opening her gifts, and playing with them. She particularly loves the mini trampoline we gave her (she loves jumping on our leather lounge, but she's too big for that! But the floor isn't as much fun - now she's got somewhere fun to jump! You can see her sitting on it, with her cousins nearby), and the tea set from her Granny and Gramps. Kira also loved playing with her cousins. She adores them - they keep her in fits of giggles, and out of mischief!
These are just some of the pictures we took on Kira's birthday. She looked so adorable in the yellow dress Aunty Jeni and Uncle George gave her for Christmas, and her hair up in the yellow clip from Gran and Gramps. You could just tell she felt "special"!!
We had two cakes, as our wedding anniversary is on the same day as Kira's birthday. I made Neal and I a Chocolate Cherry-Ripe Mudcake to celebrate our 6th anniversary (we had that as our wedding cake!), and a "bouquet of flowers" vanilla cupcakes for Kira's birthday cake. This doubled as "party favours" - one way to use up all that cake!!
Kira LOVES cake (just like her Mummy and Daddy!), so she was really excited when we all gathered around the table. She was surprised, and thrilled, when we all started singing "Happy birthday" to her - lots of clapping and shrieking!! Then, with some help from Daddy and Grandad, Kira blew out her candle, and got stuck into some cake...mmm, yummy!!!
Happy birthday, Angel!!! Mummy and Daddy love you so very much!

  1. I love the cakes! Those cupcakes are absolutely adorable! I might have to steal that idea for Hannah when she gets bigger.
